The Dean of Mengo, Ven. Canon Isaac Membe Kijjambu, has warned Christians about the dangers of delaying medical checkups and the risks associated with self-medication without consulting qualified health workers.
He made the remarks while officiating at the opening of a health camp organised by married women in the Namirembe Diocese at Mengo. The camp offered a range of medical services, including malaria testing and screening for various diseases.
Canon Kijjambu urged the public to make good use of the medicines provided and to strictly follow medical advice from health professionals.
“People should not delay seeking medical care because it worsens their health conditions. Avoid self-medication and always consult qualified health workers,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Meddie Kiggundu from Mengo Hospital noted that the health camp placed strong emphasis on non-communicable diseases, which remain a major health challenge in many communities.
“Non-communicable diseases are still a big challenge in our communities, and regular medical checkups are essential for early detection and management,” Dr. Kiggundu said.
Nalongo Roseline Biingi Kawiso, the leader of married women in the diocese, encouraged the public to embrace routine health checkups to enable early diagnosis and timely treatment.
“I urge everyone to adopt a culture of regular health screening so that diseases can be detected early and treated in time,” she said.
Health officials say community health camps play an important role in extending basic health services to communities and encouraging people to seek early medical attention before conditions become severe.
